TAMPOPO is a ramen and tonkatsu specialty store founded by Takaaki Takagi in Singapore. Takagi is best known for starting Tonkichi, one of Singapore’s best Tonkatsu Restaurants. The name Tampopo, which literally means “dandelion”, is inspired by the 1985 Japanese “Ramen Western” film of the same name.
The Philippine franchise, owned by George Huang, Chris Tiu, and TY Tang, is Tampopo’s first outside of Singapore. It is the first 2-in-1 Ramen & Tonkatsu specialty resto concept in the country.
This part was my second favorite part of the meal. (Eating was my first favorite.) Our waiter gave us bowls of sesame seeds and told us to crush the seeds. He showed us the right way of crushing the seeds because he saw us randomly playing with the seeds and just literally crushing it. The right way was actually crushing or pressing the seeds in circular motion. I’m sorry. I don’t know how to describe the action :)) Anyway, as we did that, the seeds got finer. And, it let out a beautiful aroma. After that, we added the sauce to the recently crushed seeds. Viola! Sauce for your Tonkatsu.
I really really loved their Tonkatsu. The meat is very tender. It’s tasty. And, It’s just heaven. For this meal^, you get to have side dishes. You can have unlimited rice and salad.
^THE BEST RAMEN EVER. My Siblings and I are really big fans of hot and spicy food and if you are, too, try this Ramen. Get the best of both worlds with this dish because the Ramen comes with the Tonkatsu. Soooo worth the price. It’s so sad that I forgot the name of this dish but if you wanna try this, ask for the spicy Ramen that comes with the Tonkatsu. Oh, you also have the chance to choose the meat for your tonkatsu. It’s either Black Pig and something special ( I FORGOT ) I apologize for the inconvenience with my brain. This whole meal happened a month ago. So, don’t blame me for lost details. jk
